Save the Rhino Day

Today is Save the Rhino Day! Reid Park Zoo is committed to rhinoceros conservation and education and is home to two southern white rhinos.

White rhinos were close to extinction in the 1890’s, but conservation efforts helped their populations recover! Today they are considered Near Threatened and their numbers continue to grow.

Our elderly female rhino, Yebonga, decided to enjoy today’s holiday with a relaxing mud bath. Wallowing in mud is one of her favorite activities, and a great way to beat the heat!
