Argus Pheasant Chicks Hatch at Reid Park Zoo
The Zoo recently hatched two great argus pheasant chicks. At hatch, the chicks weighed 50g (that’s as much as half an apple). To keep the chicks safe, they are being raised behind the scenes.
Pheasant chicks are precocial, meaning they can run a few hours after hatching. They also need very little help learning how to eat. The chicks are very energetic. They love to run and jump, and they get very excited when Keepers give them mealworms.
