This July, Reid Park Zoo is taking on the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium’s W.I.L.D Zero-Waste Challenge! You are invited to join the Reid Park Zoo team during this month-long challenge as we build sustainable habits together to protect wild animals and their wild places — one action at a time.
Join our group of changemakers who are committed to reducing waste, conserving national resources, and living more mindfully. Whether you’re new to sustainability or already walking the walk, this challenge offers fun, practical ways to make a difference every day.
What Is the W.I.L.D. Zero-Waste Challenge?
The W.I.L.D. Zero-Waste Challenge (which stands for Walk Intentionally, Live Differently) is a free, app-based event hosted on the JouleBug platform, where participants complete eco-friendly actions that reduce their environmental footprint.
With every action logged, you’ll earn points! The member of the public who joins the Reid Park Zoo team and scores the highest points on the team’s leaderboard during the challenge will receive a free behind-the-scenes tour (some restrictions apply).
Previous participants of the July Plastic Free EcoChallenge will find the new challenge enlists a mobile-friendly app, individualized user features (like live impact tracking of your CO2 saved), and sustainable actions that are in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Team members can also customize their profiles, earn Mastery Badges, and cheer each other on as we make greener habits. In addition to some actions that were popular in the Plastic Free EcoChallenge, there are 100 new actions to help you jump start your waste-reduction journey.
How do I join?
Joining is easy!
- Download the JouleBug app
- Free on iOS and Android in their app stores
- Accept the privacy statement
- Add your email
- Enter WILD2025 or use this link on your phone (Desktop users use the QR code below to download the app on your phone)
- Search for and join the W.I.L.D. Zero-Waste Challenge
- Join the Reid Park Zoo team
- Start logging your actions, tracking your impact, and following your team members

If you accidently sign up for another team besides the Reid Park Zoo team, follow these steps:
- Head to the info section of your Challenge and tap on the member button
- Scroll to find the team you want to join and tap the join button.
- You’ll be asked to confirm if you want to switch teams and reminded that your points will start over. Tap switch to confirm.
