Conservation: Overview

It’s Our Mission!

At Reid Park Zoo, conservation is at the heart of everything we do. Around the world, wildlife faces growing challenges, including habitat loss, climate change, pollution, and illegal wildlife trade. Protecting animals requires action both here at the Zoo and in the wild places they call home.

We support conservation in three key ways:

Conservation at Reid Park Zoo

Conservation Beyond Reid Park Zoo

Sustainability at Reid Park Zoo

Join us by taking sustainability actions at home and/or donating!

Together, these efforts help create a future where both people and wildlife can thrive.

Conservation at Reid Park Zoo

As an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), Reid Park Zoo helps maintain healthy, genetically diverse populations of animals through collaborative conservation breeding programs called Species Survival Plans® (SSPs).

We also provide exceptional animal care, support conservation research, and help millions of people build meaningful connections with wildlife.

Conservation Beyond Reid Park Zoo

Many species cannot be saved through zoo-based efforts alone. Wildlife needs healthy habitats and thriving ecosystems to survive.

Through conservation grants and partnerships around the world, Reid Park Zoo supports research, habitat protection, community-based conservation, and efforts to reduce threats facing wildlife in their native ranges.

Sustainability at Reid Park Zoo

Protecting wildlife starts with reducing our impact on the planet. From solar energy and water conservation to composting and pollinator-friendly landscaping, we work to make our operations more sustainable while inspiring guests to make wildlife-friendly choices in their own lives.
