World Elephant Day
Saturday, August 9, 2025
8:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Join us Expedition Tanzania and spots around the Zoo to explore and celebrate our elephant herd and the importance of elephants everywhere. Watch as the herd receives some special enrichment treats (including Nandi, who is turning 11 this month).
Hear from Zoo Keepers and educators on care and wellness of the herd from matriarch Semba to calf Meru. Learn about all things pachyderm and participate in elephant-themed activities. As a special part of the celebration, join Development Officer and Zoo Personality Jed Dodds in our air-conditioned Conservation Learning Center for “Walking with Giants,” a travelogue and presentation on his recent trip to Africa and observations on wild elephants. Learn what is happening with wild elephants, similarities to our own elephants here at the Zoo, and what is being done to help preserve and protect these majestic animals for future generations.
