Catch your favorite Zoo animals enjoying a slice of summer!

Every Wednesday in July, Reid Park Zoo will be providing special enrichment that are all centered around the classic pink and green summer treat, watermelon!

Enjoy seeing the giraffe’s lick up pulverized watermelons in popsicles, meerkats run through frozen melon tunnels, and elephants smash watermelons whole. In addition to providing fun hydration and exercise, these sweet treats encourage the animals to use natural skills and behaviors such as foraging and problem solving.

 Here’s the schedule of festivities:  

July 2

8:30 a.m. – elephant habitat
9 a.m. – Andean bear habitat
9:30 a.m. – Flight Connection Aviary
10 a.m. – meerkats habitat
11 a.m. – wild dogs habitat

July 9

8:30 a.m. – elephant habitat
9 a.m. – tamandua at South American presentation space
9:30 a.m. – tortoise girls habitat
10 a.m. – lions habitat
11 a.m. – anteater habitat

July 16:

8:30 a.m. – elephant habitat
9 a.m. – capybara habitat
9:30 a.m. – squirrel monkey habitat
10 a.m. – zebra habitat
11 a.m.- tapir habitat

July 23:

8:30 a.m.- elephant habitat
9 a.m. – jaguar habitat
9:30 a.m. – South American Aviary
10 a.m. – South American tortoise habitat
11 a.m. – giraffe habitat

July 30:

8:30 a.m. – elephant
9 a.m. – otter
9:30 a.m. – grizzly
10 a.m. – ring-tailed lemur/duiker
11 a.m. – leopard tortoises
