Reid Park Zoo is excited to announce the addition of Hudson the squirrel monkey, who is joining the troop in the Zoo’s Temple of Tiny Monkeys.
Hudson is 2 years old and comes to us from Sedgwick County Zoo. He is being slowly introduced to the Zoo’s other three squirrel monkeys: Mango, Mateo, and Toto.
“Hudson has been introduced to the rest of the squirrel monkey troop and is doing well. He has been sticking close to one monkey in particular, Toto, as he gets used to his new home,” said Adam Ramsey, Reid Park Zoo Director of Animal Care. “Even though Hudson is our smallest squirrel monkey, he is very confident, laid back, and playful.”
You can spot Hudson (and the rest of the troop) over in the South America loop of the Zoo at the Temple of Tiny Monkeys as they jump and frolic. Hudson can be identified by looking for the smallest of the squirrel monkeys with thick arms.
Native to the tropical forests of Central and South America, squirrel monkeys are among the world’s smallest primates. It is customary in the wild for male squirrel monkeys to leave their mothers and natal groups to form bachelor troops at approximately two years of age.
