Muralist Alejandra Trujillo is transporting guests into a bird wonderland through her brushstrokes.
Over in the South American Aviary, Alejandra has picked up her paintbrush to beautify the interior section of the double safety doors and the interior wall of the aviary. Alejandra’s artistic style is right in line with our goal of keeping the Zoo engaging and welcoming for all.
The inspiration behind this new section of the mural is to have people transition through a whimsical place and emerge into the aviary space. It is also part of the Zoo’s ongoing initiatives to keep the Zoo grounds pristine – not only for the comfort of the animals but also to add to guest comfort and their Zoo experience. This transitional area connects guests from the outside of the mural (completed October 2026) and leads to a magical aviary filled with colorful South American birds.
“It’s always a big honor to paint at the Zoo. I’ve been coming to Reid Park Zoo since I was little. It’s fulfilling to have the opportunity to provide my children and future generations something beautiful,” said Alejandra.
The interior section of the mural is expected to be complete before the end of July 2026. Alejandra’s other artworks can be seen inside the sloth habitat, on the outside of the South American Aviary, and on her Instagram page @atrujillo_art.
