Nandi’s 10th Birthday Mudfest

Saturday, August 17, 2024
8:00 am — 12:00 pm

Nandi is turning 10! Join us for a pachyderm-sized party the first elephant born in Arizona in the muddiest way

Get ready to get muddy! Nandi, the first elephant born in Arizona, is turning 10 and we are celebrating the elephant way — with mud! Join us for a morning of cookies, elephantastic photo opps, live performances by Mr. Nature’s Music Garden, mud wallows for the kids (bring a swimsuit!), and lots of love for Nandi and the whole herd.

Party Like an Elephant: Get in the Mud and Wallow

Be ready to get dirty!  Elephants like Nandi use dirt and mud to protect their skin and know mud wallows are a fun way to beat the heat. In celebration of Nandi’s summer birthday, we’re setting up mud pits in the Event Garden from 9 to 11:30 a.m. to allow children and families time to literally get their hands (and more) dirty! There will be a larger mud wallow and kiddie pool wallows for the littles.

Bring a change of clothes, a towel, and a modest bathing suit and get ready to get muddy! A hose will be available to wash off afterward and there will be plenty of sunshine and warmth to drip dry when done.

All festivities are free with Zoo admission!

This celebration honors Nandi and all elephants! Show your love for Nandi and her family by supporting elephant conservation, protecting habitats, and saying no to ivory. Reid Park Zoo is a proud supporter of the Tanzania Conservation Research Program, which works to create habitat corridors for elephants in Africa. To date 3 million acres of habitat around the Tarangire National Park have been protected. Learn more about this program and other conservation projects Reid Park Zoo supports here.
