Join us for a free presentation by Dr. George Schaller, a legendary scientist and master biographer of the planet’s most charismatic species. He has explored the wilderness since 1952 and has conducted extensive field research with gorillas, pandas, lions, tigers, snow leopards, and jaguars.  Presentation will begin at 6:15pm at the Zoo’s Conservation Learning Center. He will share stories from his remarkable career, his passion for the beauty and diversity of wildlife across the globe, and his dedication to protecting wild places.

Biography:

Dr. George Schaller is a preeminent scientist often called the father of modern field biology. He
has been exploring the wild places of the world since 1952, making the first extensive field
research of gorillas, lions, tigers, pandas, snow leopards, jaguars, and many other species. His
work has spurred the creation of more than 20 parks and reserves worldwide, including the vast
Chang Tang National Reserve which protects nearly 130,000 square miles of Tibetan
wilderness. For decades, Schaller was the director of international conservation for the Wildlife
Conservation Society, and he has received numerous awards for his work, including the
National Geographic’s Hubbard Award, the World Wildlife Fund’s Gold Medal, and China’s
highest environmental award. Schaller has inspired generations of field biologists and
conservationists and published more than 15 books and hundreds of articles, communicating
his passion for the beauty and diversity of wildlife around the world and his dedication to its
protection.
