We’re Lighting up the Zoo this Spring!

Reid Park Zoo is partnering with the Confucius Institute at the University of Arizona, Tianyu Arts & Culture Inc. and Tucson Chinese Cultural Center to bring over 40 colorful, customized lantern displays to Southern Arizona. Save the date for this event that will transport you across the world with Asian-inspired entertainment, cuisine, and culture.

Throughout the evening, you’ll enjoy:

  • Over 40 larger-than-life lanterns
  • Asian-inspired activities and crafts (Thursday – Sunday)
  • Entertainment
  • Life-size Zen Garden in Expedition Tanzania
  • Interactive lighted floor and swings in Expedition Tanzania
  • Asian-inspired food in the Zoo’s café

Price:

  • $18 for Adults
  • $16 for Children (2-14)
  • Children 1-year-old or younger are free
  • Members get $2 off admission

Additional Details:

  • The Asian Lantern Festival is a family-friendly event.
  • Carousel rides will be available for an additional fee.
  • Food from Taste Catering will be available in the Zoo’s café for purchase.
  • Tickets are non-refundable. Discounts cannot be combined.
  • Animals will have access to heated habitats behind-the-scenes for this event, and will likely choose to be off habitat.

Swing by the Conservation Learning Center during the Asian Lantern Festival and enjoy these Asian-inspired crafts! All crafts will be from 6:00 to 10:00 pm.

  • February 2 – 9: Make Your Own Lantern

  • February 28 – March 2: DIY Paper Bag Puppets
  • March 7 – 9 : Dragon Chains
  • March 14 – 16: DIY Starter Chop Sticks

Daily Crafts Free with Admission!

Try your hand at some of these well known Asian-inspired games and activities! All the below games will be from 6:00 to 10:00 pm by the Conservation Learning Center.

  • Chinese Checkers
  • Mah Jong (traditional and kid-friendly)
  • Marble Pick-up Game (chopstick dexterity challenge)
  • JUMBO Jenga and Corn Hole (on rotation)
  • Origami Station – make frogs that jump and play leap frog!

Entertainment & Activity Schedule (2/2-2/17) Free with Admission!

Thanks to a variety of community partners all additional activities and entertainment are free with admission. Stop by the Zoo’s Event Garden to enjoy entertainment on the Main Stage or swing by the Conservation Learning Center located in the back of the Zoo for some additional activities.

  • Activities: Games, craft, glitter tattoos, henna tattoos, and Jiangzi (hacky sack game)

  • Activities: Games, craft, henna tattoos, glitter tattoos, Jiangzi (hacky sack game)
  • Additional Activities provided by UA Confucius Institute: name writing, painting, calligraphy

  • Entertainment: Lion dance (6:30 pm), Chinese Folk Dance (7 pm), Tai Chi (7:30 pm), and Fashion Show (8 pm) by Tucson Chinese Cultural Center on Main Stage
  • Activities: Games, craft, glitter tattoos, henna tattoos, and Jiangzi (hacky sack game)

February 10:

  • Entertainment:  Drumming (6-8 pm) by Jam2Grow
  • Activities: Animal Encounter, craft, games, and Jiangzi (hacky sack game)
