Programs for Private Groups

The Zoo offers programs for any group of individuals looking for a unique experience at the Zoo. Programs are available 7 days a week and are booked first-come, first-served based on staff availability.

Behind the Scenes Experiences

Please choose your experience from the list below:

Elephant Experience:

Fee: $500 for 2 people. $100 for each additional person up to 10 total people.

Join us for a 60 minute adventure to learn what it takes to care for Reid Park Zoo’s elephant herd. Your experience will include watching an elephant training session, a tour of the elephant barn, meeting our elephant animal care staff and helping them hide treats for the elephants.

Available only on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8am October – May; 7am June – September

If there are children in your group – all must be 10 or older and at least one adult must attend this program.

 

Close encounter experience:

Fee: $300 for up to 10 people.

During this 60 minute experience you will learn more about some of Reid Park Zoo’s most popular residents. Your experience includes a visit to the anteater, rhino and giraffe habitats and a chance to see these animals closer than during a regular Zoo visit.

Please note: education staff reserves the right to modify experience based on animal health and safety.

If there are children in your group – all must be 5 or older and at least one adult must attend this program.

 

Zoo Adventure Program 

  • 45-minute program
  • $15.00 per person (child and adult)
  • Minimum program price: $150.00
  • Maximum group size per program: 40

Each ZAP session, which lasts 45 minutes, can accommodate up to 40 people (includes students and adults). If you have a large group, we can schedule up to four back-to-back programs on the same day.

Programs will focus on the topic of your choice, and will include fun activities and interaction with live animal ambassadors.

Available topics include:

  • Habitats:  Learn what an animal needs in its habitat and how animals survive in desert, rainforest and savannah habitats.
  • Adaptations: Learn about adaptations that help wild animals survive and how people can be inspired by nature’s survival tips.
  • Locomotion: Investigate how animals move from here to there by exploring their unique adaptations.
  • Zoo 101: Caring for the animals that call the Zoo home is a big job, learn how we do it and why what we do is so important.
  • Conservation and Endangered Species (Grades 3 and up only): Discover Reid Park Zoo’s role as a conservation organization and how zoos and scientists work to protect wildlife and wild places.
  • Animal Food and Nutrition (Grades 3 and up only) Available Spring 2018
  • Animal Care and Health (Grades 3 and up only) Available Spring 2018

 

Zookeeper in Training (for ages 6-12)

  • Ages 6-12
  • 2 1/2 hour program (Program start time must be no later than 9:30AM)
  • $25 per person (child and adult)
  • Minimum program price: $375.00
  • Maximum group size per program: 20

So you want to be a zookeeper? Find out if you’ve got what it takes! Try your hand at a zookeeper’s unique chores in one busy morning as we prepare animal meals and treats, perform wellness check-ups, and even clean a night house. Leave your best clothes at home and come prepared to get down and dirty at the zoo. Parents may attend this program if they wish, but must pay participant fee.
