Zoo Teen travels to the tundra with Polar Bears International

The Zoo is excited to announce that one of our teen volunteers, Gus Woodrow-Tomizuka, will be heading to the tundra near Churchill, Manitoba, Canada for a week-long Teen Leadership Camp hosted by conservation group Polar Bears International (PBI)!

Reid Park Zoo was invited to send a representative to the camp because of its role as a PBI Arctic Ambassador Center. These centers focus on animal well-being and enrichment, take a leadership role in stewardship and carbon reduction efforts in their communities, and participate in PBI polar bear research efforts. Gus was competitively selected based on his accomplishments as an environmental leader. He will join 17 other top students from the U.S., Canada, and Australia.

You can follow Gus’s experiences on his blog at http://www.polarbearsinternational.org/programs/blogs, starting on Monday, October 11.
