Zoo Receives TEP/Unisource Grant

TEP Grant receiptReid Park Zoo loves students – so we are thrilled to have recently received an award from TEP/Unisource’s Grants That Make a Difference to help expand our Zoo To You Outreach Program for Pima County schools!

The Zoo’s education program helps teachers create powerful science learning experiences for students, either with guided programs the Zoo or right in their classrooms. Zoo educators work with each teacher to set up a Zoo experience that fits with a particular class’s learning goals. We always encourage classes to come to the Zoo for the program if at all possible; but if it’s not, Zoo staff can bring live animals to the classroom for engaging, dynamic lessons on topics such as habitats, locomotion, animal nutrition, or conservation. Either way, it’s a great way to make science come alive for kids!

Thank you, TEP, for providing funds to make our Zoo to You Outreach Program available to Pima County schools serving limited-income families. With this grant, the Zoo will be able to reach nearly 1,000 students who would not otherwise have access to this opportunity. Details on how teachers may apply for grant funding will be coming soon.
