Wildlife Carousel Open
The carousel is now open! We hope you’ll come to the Zoo soon and take a ride on a gibbon, anteater, or eagle.
The American-made carousel features representatives from 30 different animal species. Each animal was painstakingly fabricated and hand painted. The carousel is topped by a safari-themed thatched roof, so it blends in nicely with the foliage in the front plaza of the Zoo.
Reid Park Zoological Society organized a fundraising campaign to help bring the carousel to Tucson. Many individual animals have been sponsored, but there are a few species still available, including a gibbon, a sea turtle, and a red panda. “Sponsoring a carousel animal is such a fun way to show your support for the Zoo,” says Nancy Schlegel, Executive Director of the Reid Park Zoological Society, “Imagine being able to bring your children or grandchildren to the Zoo to ride ‘their’ rhinoceros.”
The carousel will operate daily and costs $3 for each rider; guardians may stand on the carousel alongside children at no charge.
