Play like a kid at Mud Day, presented by Summit Hut!

Come play like a kid 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. July 1 at Mud Day, presented by Summit Hut!

“Mud pits” will be set up to allow children and families time to literally get their hands dirty! Specially trained “Nature Play Partners” will be available to encourage natural investigation, and provide skills, tools and resources increasing everyone’s comfort level with guiding play-based learning in natural settings, or unstructured nature play activities at home.

Discover species that rely on mud – animals use mud both for protection from biting insects and sunrays.

Our friends from the Tohono Chul Park will be visiting with fun, muddy activities including making mud slime and mud dough, and painting with “magic mud!”

This event will be a little messy, so plan your wardrobe accordingly. Select clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty, or wear a modest bathing suit. A hose will be available to wash off afterward and there will be plenty of sunshine and warmth to drip dry when done!

Mud Day is part of a continued commitment to get families back outside, enjoying nature at places like Reid Park Zoo!

Nature Play at the Zoo offers our community a safe, convenient, outdoor space where they can enjoy the benefits playing outside can brings to families:

  • increasing physical activity
  • promoting critical thinking and creativity
  • increasing concentration and focus
  • promoting family bonding
  • developing stronger immune systems

We’re looking forward to seeing you play like a kid!
