Mabu the African Elephant Has Moved

In the wild, male elephants commonly move between herds for social and breeding purposes. Mimicking this natural behavior, Reid Park Zoo’s bull elephant Mabu has a new home at Fresno Chaffee Zoo. Mabu arrived safely last night and is doing well adjusting to his new home. Several members of Reid Park Zoo’s animal care and veterinary team escorted Mabu on his move and are helping him settle in.

“This recommendation from the African Elephant Species Survival Plan is a great social opportunity for Mabu,” said Nancy Kluge, Reid Park Zoo’s President & CEO. “Although we’re sorry to see him go, we know our colleagues at Fresno Chaffee Zoo will take great care of him. We will all miss Mabu and look forward to following him in updates from Fresno Chaffee Zoo.”
