Introducing the Tinamou
Watch for this new species, native to Southern Chile and Argentina, in the Zoo’s South American Aviary. The elegant crested tinamou CAN fly, but not very well, so it typically escapes predators by running away. Reid Park Zoo’s tinamou, however, are not at all timid–although the Zoo houses two male birds, one of them is currently being held off exhibit until he can be trained NOT to follow Zoo guests out of the aviary!
