Grizzly Bear Exhibit Opens this Week!

grzbear1728zStarting Thursday, September 19th, grizzly bears Ronan (male) and Finley (female) will be on exhibit daily.  You can visit them any time the Zoo is open, from 9am-4pm, and we hope you will! The exhibit now features a stream, and two connecting exhibit spaces–one with a big pool, and one with a grassy yard.  The bears have been exploring this space for a couple of weeks now, and they seem to be having a great time exploring for treats, and taking cool dips in the water.

Zoo Keepers have been working with both bears behind the scenes to teach them behaviors that will help us take better care of them.  Both bears are fast learners, and are very motivated by food rewards.  Finley is a little more timid than her brother, so Keepers are working hard to earn her trust and to make sure she feels comfortable in her new home.

We’re planning a fun opening event on Saturday, September 21, from 9am-Noon, that will feature games, crafts, and activities that celebrate bears.  They are amazing animals, and we want you to learn more about their natural adaptations and how you can help protect bears in the wild.  We hope you’ll join us on Saturday, or some other time soon, to welcome these beautiful bears to Tucson.
