Feeding the Aviary
With so many birds in our aviaries, how does animal care staff find every bird twice a day? One trick is to use bugs!
Many of our birds enjoy eating insects like mealworms, superworms, and waxworms. Twice a day our Zoo Keepers blow a whistle as a cue and then toss these insects onto the ground to encourage the birds to come out of the bushes and trees to eat. This tactic allows them to get eyes on each bird and ensure they are in good health!
