Feed Your Wild Side: New Choices From the Zoofari Café

Look at the food, now back to me, now look at the food, now back at me. Would you be surprised if I told you that these scrumptious looking dishes were created right here at Reid Park Zoo? If your answer is yes, then you can thank Christian Haldeman, the Head Chef at Reid Park Zoo’s Zoofari Café – the guy helping spice-up your average zoo meal of popcorn and hotdogs with dishes such as the Basil Chicken Pesto Sandwich (middle), the Sonoran Cobb Salad (top), and the Veggie Pita Sandwich (bottom).

Most people have an expectation of what they want when they come to the zoo. Hot dogs, cotton candy, and popcorn are things that people want as part of their experience. However, sometimes they want something lighter or fresher, especially as the temperature heats up. With this new menu, we wanted to offer some of those lighter, fresher options, while still being sure that we can meet those nostalgic expectations with the highest possible quality,” said Haldeman.

The Cafe’s new menu has over thirty mouth-watering choices, including vegetarian and vegan options, to choose from and a variety of kid-friendly options such as the classic peanut butter and jelly sandwich. So when you realize that roaring sound is actually coming from your stomach instead of the lions, come visit Reid Park Zoo’s Zoofari Café, and feed your wild side with a delicious meal from the hard-working staff.
