Enrichment at the Zoo
At the Zoo, caring for animals goes way beyond feeding and cleaning. Animals are regularly enriched with a changing array of pre-approved tastes, smells, and toys that stimulate their senses and encourage natural behaviors. Enrichment keeps animals active and engaged with their surroundings, and that’s a benefit for visitors too! On your next trip, you might observe primates searching logs in their exhibit for hidden grapes, or a giraffe licking a green onion popsicle tucked into her hay feeder. In this photo, female tiger Sita enjoys a new toy built by one of the Zoo’s college interns out of rope and PVC pipe.
