Guanaco April 20162

A guanaco uses its upper lip to pick up leaves and grass–like we would use our fingers!

These relatives of the llama live in dry habitat in South America.  Guanacos can get all of the water they need from the plants they eat – just like many desert adapted animals in Arizona.

Guanacos spit when they feel threatened, which can be a challenge when you’re a Zoo Keeper!14017998731_88035ac2ec_k
