Programs for School Groups

This discounted group pricing is for accredited schools using the Zoo as part of their school curriculum. For more information about any of these programs, or to find out if you qualify for these prices, please call Reid Park Zoo’s education department at 837-8200.   

Zoo Educator led programs are booked on a first come, first serve basis—please plan these visits as far in advance as possible to avoid disappointment.  Our schedule fills early!

Zoo Adventure Programs (ZAP) 

(Please note the price increase for spring programs, effective August 8, 2014)

  • All ages
  • 45 – 60 minute program
  • $6.00 per person (student OR adult) for programs occurring Jan. 1 – June 30
  • $5.00 per person (student OR adult) for programs occurring July 1 – Dec. 31
  • Minimum program price Jan-June – $120.00
  • Minimum program price July-December – $100.00

Zoo Adventure Programs align with current state and federal science standards, and provide a fun and memorable field trip for your students.

Each ZAP session, which lasts 45-60 minutes, can accommodate up to 30 people (includes students and adults). If you have a large group, we can do multiple programs on the same day. The maximum number of participants we can accommodate in one day is 120 (includes students and adults).  If your group is larger than 120, please plan to reserve multiple days for programming.

Programs will focus on the topic of your choice, and will include fun activities and interaction with live demonstration animals.  For groups in which all participants are 5 years or older, a Behind the Scenes opportunity will also be included. Optional: add a Giraffe Encounter to your program for $1 additional per person.

Zookeeper in Training (for ages 5 and up)

  • Ages 5 and up
  • 2 1/2 hour program (must start no later than 9:30am)
  • $15.00 per person (students AND adults)
  • Minimum program price – $225.00

Encourage your students to explore the challenges and rewards of a career working with wild animals. We’ll spend an action-packed morning making animal diet and enrichment items, engaging in behavior training experiments, even cleaning an animal nighthouse. Students will also have the opportunity to get up close to several of our animal residents.

Flashlight Safari (for ages 5 and up)

  • Ages 5 and up
  • Program starts at 7pm and ends at 8am the following morning
  • $45.00 per person
  • Minimum program price – $900.00
  • Maximum group size – 30

This popular overnight program provides hours of exciting exploration. All programming can be tailored to tie into classroom curriculum to help you meet standards or we can provide a fun-filled evening of adventure. The morning includes a behind-the-scenes tour and breakfast.  All tents, supplies and materials are provided. All your students need to bring is a sleeping bag, toothbrush, and change of clothes.

Evening Safari (for all ages)

  • All ages
  • 3-hour program (6pm-9pm)
  • $25 per person (child and adult)
  • Minimum program price: $375
  • Maximum group size per program: 30

All the fun of being in the Zoo after-hours with the luxury of sleeping in your own bed! Flashlight tours through the Zoo, a live animal encounter and a scavenger hunt will make this an evening for your students to remember.

Self-Guided (for all ages)

  • All ages
  • Admission only
  • $2 admission (child and adult)
  • Bio Bag available upon request
    Optional: add a Giraffe Encounter to your program for $1 additional per person.
    Optional: add a Train Ride to your program for $1 additional per person.

Explore the Zoo at your own pace on a self-guided tour. We suggest you allow yourself two hours to see most of the Zoo.
