We look forward to welcoming brown bears by fall. We have already started modifications to the old polar bear habitat to get ready for them. Brown bears need more shallow water space and we will combine the two smaller parts of the habitat into one large space.
We are working with state and federal wildlife agencies to help rescue brown bears in need of placement from the wild. Perhaps we will asked to help with cubs. Maybe we will take a mother and her offspring. We are not sure yet. Many brown bears run into difficulty each year due to human conflict at campgrounds or other areas where people encounter bear habitat. We look forward to doing one small part to rescue animals that might not otherwise survive.
How can you help? Join us at Brew at the Zoo — this event will benefit conservation education exhibits at the new bear habitat!
